Dr. Yaoheng Yang is the assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at USC. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, where he received the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award. Before his doctoral studies, Dr. Yang completed his Bachelor’s and M.Phil degrees at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focuses on leveraging multidisciplinary approaches from physics, electrical engineering, and neuroscience to address critical challenges in noninvasive and spatiotemporally precise neuromodulation. Among his notable achievements are: 1) Achieving artificial hibernation using non-invasive neuromodulation techniques. 2) Developing preclinical and clinical focused ultrasound instrumentation for precise brain stimulation; 3) Innovating sonogenetics to enable cell-type specific neuromodulation; His work has been published in journals such as Nature Metabolism, PNAS and Radiology. Dr. Yang has been honored with four international awards, including the Nadine Barrie Smith Award. His research has been featured in major media outlets such as Science, The New York Times, Time, and The Guardian. Dr. Yang actively contributes to science communication and education through online platforms, where his collaborative content has amassed over 3 million views.
